Collecting

“I have been fond of collecting books and seashells since a boy, and now I have a large collection. When I started to collect cold weapon I noticed that blade handles were sometimes made of ivory. I got interested in that because ivory was a rather hard material and the slightest mistake made by a craftsman could cost him several years of work. I started to collect okimono, small ivory carvings. At present, my collections are not my hobby, but also the national endow. I hope my collection will be expanded and put on public display.

Collecting is a special state of mind. If one regards it as proper investment, which is in fact correct, such a person is not a real collector. His commitment is not driven by the need of his heart. One should be ready to walk everywhere to get a desired item, seek a dream for years on end and never think the sky is the limit. A true collector does not know a word “enough”. I number myself among this kind of people”.

My dream

“I belong to collectors who want people to see their achievements. It is my strong conviction that a collection is a living being. A collection means emotions from displaying it to people, emotions from their delighted looks. I take pleasure in bringing joy to somebody”.
