Biography

Feldman Olexandr Borysovych

Date of birth - 6 January 1960, Kharkiv (Ukraine)
Family status – married; son, grandson
Academic background - Karazin Kharkiv National University (Ukraine), degree in economic sciences.

Professional background

Nov 1978 -1980 – served in the Soviet Army.

1981-2002 – F. went from a driver and boiler plant operator to Honorable President of Concern AVEC & Co., one of Ukraine’s largest private enterprises. Barabashovo trade center, the Europe’s biggest commercial center that now provides over 60 thousand jobs was established by Concern AVEC & Co.

Jan 2001-Jan 2004 – President, Honorary President of Football Club Metallist joint-stock company.

1998-2002 – Deputy at Kharkiv City Council of the 23rd convocation.

In 2002, O.Feldman was elected MP of Ukraine. In March 2006 – elected MP of Ukraine (5th convocation) for BYuT; September 2007 – elected MP (6th convocation) for BYuT.

Party membership - All-Ukrainian Union Fatherland (led by Tymoshenko).

Public activities

February 1997, established and headed Kharkiv City Charitable Foundation AVEC that was later renamed to International Charitable Fund Olexandr Feldman’s Fund. The targeted assistance, for 10 years of the foundation operations, has been granted to over 37,000 individuals and 4,000 organizations. Around UAH50 million was injected to charity.

1997-2008 – President of the Jewish Foundation of Ukraine;
Since 1999 – President of the Association of National and Cultural Unions of Ukraine;
Since 2001 – member of the Standing Delegation of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly;
Since 2006 – Vice President of the International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians;
Since 2006 – founder, chairman of the board at the International Center of Tolerance;
Since 2007 – member of the International Leadership Council of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, member of the President of Ukraine Coordination Council for the preparation of events devoted to the 75th anniversary of the 1932-1933 Holodomor;
Since 2007 – member of the Royal Instutute of International Affairs (GB);
Since 2008 – President of the Ukrainian Jewish Committee;
Since 2010 – member of the Stability and Reforms coalition.

 

Awards

1999 – Golden Order of Saint Nicholas Thaumaturgus “For multiplying the good on the Earth”.

2000 – Order of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church “The Nativity of Christ 2000”; Order of Saint Nestor the Chronicler.

2002 – Order of Merit, second class.

2003 – French Republic medal “For devotion to the protection of human rights”.

2004 – Order of Merit, third class.

2007 – Order of Merit, first class.

2008 – Golden Cross Order “For merits in strengthening a dialogue between world religions”.
